Our Team

Andrew I. Kim, MD, Gastroenterology

Dr. Kim is a gastroenterologist who is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He subsequently completed three years of residency in internal medicine at the UCLA/VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System followed by a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.  He has published articles in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has been a reviewer for medical journals including the American Journal of Gastroenterology and Hospital Physician. With this eminent academic background, and his vast knowledge of the field, he has become one of the most respected digestive diseases specialists in the area.  He is fluent in English and Korean.

Having trained under some of the world’s foremost thought leaders in gastroenterology at UCLA, he has gained a great deal of experience in managing complex gastrointestinal disorders.

Gary Chen, M.D., Gastroenterology 

Dr. Chen is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, David Geffen School of Medicine, and is the recipient of multiple scholastic awards in recognition of his academic achievements. He completed three years of Internal Medicine residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California followed by three years of Gastroenterology Fellowship training in the prestigious Department of Digestive Diseases at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Dr. Chen has done extensive academic research on gastrointestinal disorders, liver diseases, and advances in endoscopy, and his publications have been recognized both nationally and internationally. His research has included pioneering work in the use of capsule endoscopy and balloon enteroscopy. His distinguished academic background brings a high level of medical expertise to the area.  Dr. Chen is bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Dr. Chen is an expert in the care of gastroenterology and liver patients, and is well-versed on the latest treatments and advances in endoscopic technology.

John Ryan, M.D., Gastroenterology

Dr. Ryan is a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist specializing in the treatment of intestinal and liver diseases. He has a unique background that has allowed him to develop a broad array of interests in general gastroenterology, including therapeutic endoscopy.  Dr. Ryan obtained a degree in biology at Stanford University, followed by a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Following his Internal Medicine residency, he completed his gastroenterology training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His training afforded him the opportunity to spend a year as an AASLD Liver Fellow.  He went on to serve as a faculty member at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and subsequently at the University of Nevada. In the latter role, he was instrumental in starting the gastroenterology training program there. He continues to take an active role in the education of medical students and residents. He also continues to publish research. One of his particular interests is maximizing the safety of colon cancer screening.

Dr. Ryan is involved in the care of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal issues and he performs the full array of endoscopic procedures. He focuses on his passion, which is general gastroenterology.
